CouchSurfing. Sounds Pretty Cool For Anybody But My Daughter.

Not sure what to think about this one. On the one hand, it sounds like a great way to meet people, go cool places on the cheap, get a real community going. On the other hand, it sounds like hitch hiking with a twist. I haven’t tried it but I bet it’s filled with a lot of stories of awesome people and lifelong friends, coupled with a horror story every now and then cs6 master collection mac. Just like any risk sport where each success makes you more and more confident until that one hairy moment is a reminder of reality. Also, as with any risk sport, there are safe and unsafe ways to do it. When a paraglider pilot looks at the weather and it isn’t a sure thing, that’s when you pack it in. Likewise, if a situation feels the least bit weird, time to bail.

Rick Steves – Pretty nerdy but he knows what’s up!

So I went to Germany, had some extra time and pulled out my handy Rick Steves book on the country. Turns out he was talking up Rothenberg, mentioned a place to stay and the person to talk to to book it. I took his advice and it was exactly, and I mean EXACTLY like he said it. Also exactly how I liked my stay, including price range and all. I logged it in my mind, pretty cool book http://homepage.westmont.edu/make_account/images/pic/acrobat-xi-pro.html. Later I’m in London with another book of his (and it was leading me right all the time as well) and I was getting pretty jazzed on him when some guy comes up to me and tries to buy the book from me! He said he couldn’t find it, needed it and would I please sell it to him, full price plus extra. I turned him down because THESE BOOKS ROCK! I don’t agree with him politically and he definitely drank the Euro kool-aid but his books are pretty sweet!

The Drava River..It’s in Slovenia so it’s got to be Old-World and cool!

The River Drava comes down out of the Austrian Alps and things just get better after that. Winding through Slovenia, it picks up that Old World feeling and shows off some pretty sweet towns like Maribor. Yes, you can raft down, camping along the bank or staying in hotels adobe cs6 master collection full adobe cs6 master collection full. Or you can take tours full of wine and local songs. Either way, it’s off the beaten path but well worth the side trip.

Irish National Stud. So that’s where we get the word from.

Yes, it’s a very touristy place and not really off the beaten path. So what (sometimes). It is mind blowing, however so I had to add it. The Irish National Stud farm is about as good as it gets and pretty amazing when you think about the work that these horses do. The guy pictured here has the sole job of making babies. It’s a full time job and can be a bunch of times each day. For each success – 45,000 British Pounds! His name is Invincible Spirit and I guess it would have to be, right? Anyway http://malavoi3.martinique.univ-ag.fr/tramil/fototeca/miniatures/t2/kamagra-oral-jelly-prix.html. It’s pretty intense how well they take care of him as well as the..er…”lesser” horses. Amazing how much cash pours into this business. Also helps if you intend on schmoozing with the upper class. Just don’t tell them you arrived at the place on a bus. Maybe you can make a new acquaintance who can really take you off the beaten path!

Check this guy out here.

The Blue Info sign… Learn it, know it, love it

Some people pass these things by without even knowing they are there. The traveler, however, especially the laid-back, unprepared, backpack type traveler lives by them. The blue info sign is the ticket to confidence, the opposite of the confused look. Nothing like getting off a train, figuring out what city you’re in, finding a blue sign and voila! You’re off with a handfull of pamphlets, reservations to some event and a map to your home. The kid behind the counter made a commission, the bed and breakfast lady is preparing your room and most importantly, you’re on the inside!

The Moscow Metro – Those WWII POW’s really can work!

If you do make it to Moscow to see Red Square or……. well, Red Square, you definitely need to make a side trip just to cruise around on the metro. Basically, it’s the Soviet apology to its citizens for the fact that they had to live 4 families to a room. At least everyone could go to the metro to see chandeliers, statues, murals and pretend that they live in a palace instead of jammed into a tiny flat. Created using thousands of Nazi slaves, it is quite an achievement and a testament to what a dictatorship can do with the slaves from another dictatorship.

Graz – Cool and not just because Arnold is from there

Austria isn’t exactly off the beaten path and Graz is one of the most beautiful parts of that well travelled land. Yes, it’s cool because this is where Arnold Schwarzenegger was born but that’s just the cheesy, outer shell. Just a step off that path, into the side of a mountain, there is a large tunnel with dark side-rooms and foreboding bars closing them off. The tunnel is a WWII refuge that served as a Nazi storage place as well as a hiding place for the Austrians when they were finally getting some payback for believing they could jack with the rest of the world. Pretty impressive reminder of what the war was like, swastikas and all.

If I were in the Antartica…or a warzone… or backcountry…. or

Did you know that you can rent a satellite phone? For about 40 bucks and a dollar sixty a minute you can shout out a HEEELLLP! Or someone can let you now that you need to come home NOW! Regardless, it would be pretty cool to have if it all hit the fan.

Help to Avoid Delays and Cancellations

I’m for anything that helps beat the airlines at their game. I want any information that they are unwilling to hand out. Here’s another website that actually takes historical information and lets you track which days and flights have the highest cancellations or delays. AVOID THESE FLIGHTS! don’t avoid this web page.

Kinda Dorky But Convenient

This thing isn’t really my style but eliminating hassle is. Basically it’s a vest where you can hold your tickets, passport, snacks, everything you would be searching for when going through an airport. Just keep it in one of the tons of pockets in this vest. The coolest part is just throwing it on the x-ray conveyer and just walking through. If this is your kind of deal, here is a good place to get one.
